Historical research and digital technology have enabled us to restore the Château du Guildo to some of its former splendor, and (re)discover it as it appeared in the 14th and 16th centuries. Welcome to this journey through the ages!
Château du Guildo in 3D
Conducted over a period of 20 years, the archaeological excavations at Le Guildo have revealed a wealth of information about the history and appearance of the château before its ruin. Based on observation of the preserved remains and interpretation of the building debris found in the various soil strata, the archaeologist who led the excavation, Laurent Beuchet (Inrap Grand Ouest), and architect Elen Esnault (also from Inrap Grand Ouest) have teamed up to propose a reconstruction of the building volumes. Remains of decorative elements and furnishings also enabled us, in exchange with a specialist from Brittany's Regional Inventory department, to restore the supposed layouts of several rooms as well as their furnishings.
Based on this research, the Département entrusted the development of a virtual tour application to Erwan Mahé, designer of innovative digital tools, presenting the château and its evolution from the 14th to the 21st centuries.
The production of several interior views of the château was entrusted to Yann Bernard (Virtual-Archéo), based on interpretations by Laurent Beuchet and Elen Esnault.
This reconstitution and modeling work was followed by the creation of an educational model, now installed in the château. It is the fruit of a research project led by Erwan Mahé, as part of the Maketeam AR project, of which it was the demonstrator.
